Loma Prieta (translates to "Dark Hill") is an American hardcore punk band that formed in 2005. The group is based in San Francisco, California and derived their name from the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake. Most of the group's early material was released on their own record label named Discos Huelga. Loma Prieta has toured the US, Mexico, Canada, Europe and Japan.

Life/Less" is Loma Prieta's powerful second album, originally released by a partnership of Discos Huelga and React With Protest Records. Now, Discos Huelga and Deathwish have partnered to repress this sought after effort with all new artwork and packaging for the release. With "Life/Less", Loma Prieta began to explore their more chaotic side, adding heavier and faster moments to their previously established emotional hardcore punk foundation.

Out of the first three (in three years) Loma Prieta records, I find Life/Less to be the most enjoyable. This is due to the notion that, while the songwriting is as concise and solid as ever, the production is heavier than hell and really makes these compositions explode. The bass churns beneath volatile drums and a pained vocal performance, and the guitars alternate between intense hardcore riffing and melancholy, saddened lines.
