Birth of Albert Uderzo in Fismes (in the Marne département in France). As early as his nursery-school days, young Albert shows great drawing ability. He is completely self-taught, and his first vocation to be a clown develops into an irrepressible desire to draw, with an early attraction for Walt Disney heroes. From the age of ten, Albert Uderzo begins to sketch characters with big nose. 938. The family moves a second time, from Clichy-sous-Bois to the Rue de Montreuil, in the 11th district in Paris. Asterix becomes a major French comic strip hero, with his popularity increasing album by album. He brings great happiness to Albert and René, who by now have also founded a cartoon film studio, called Studio Idéfix. However, misfortune is just around the corner.

Albert Uderzo was born in 1927 in a small village in Marne, France. He met Rene Goscinny in 1951 and on 29 October 1959 their most famous creation, Asterix, made his first appearance on page 20 of Pilote. ASTERIX THE GAUL, their first album, was published in 1961 and there have now been 35 Asterix albums. While Goscinny and Uderzo were still figuring out their characters, this first in the Asterix series is a lot of fun. It's especially a treat for Asterix fans to see the slightly less-refined characterizations, and those who are new to the series should enjoy this introduction to the members of the little Gaulish village who are still holding out against the Roman invaders - with the help of some magic potion.

Asterix or The Adventures of Asterix is a series of French comics. The series first appeared in the Franco-Belgian comics magazine Pilote on 29 October 1959. It was written by René Goscinny and illustrated by Albert Uderzo until the death of Goscinny in 1977. Uderzo then took over the writing until 2009, when he sold the rights to publishing company Hachette. In 2013, a new team consisting of Jean-Yves Ferri (script) and Didier Conrad (artwork) took over.

Albert Uderzo is world famous as the co-creator of 'Astérix the Gaul' (1959), which he developed with scriptwriter René Goscinny. Despite its francophone references and sometimes near untranslatable puns, 'Astérix' is one of the most surprising international success stories in comics  . Astérix - Characters The first album, 'Astérix le Gaulois' ('Asterix the Gaul', 1959), already established most of the recurring cast. Goscinny gave all the Gauls in the series punny names which ended with the suffix '-ix', in reference to famous Gaulish chieftains like Vercingetorix, Dumnorix, Ambiorix, Orgetorix and gods like Albiorix and Caturix.
