Some or most of these may be of solar origin; a part of the low-energy flux may in fact be galactic in origin, if modulation effects are less severe at 2-4 . distances compared to that near the Earth or the Moon. The track-production rates are very depth-sensitive com- pared to the production rates of various nuclear spallation products, and it is therefore very useful to make simultaneous measurements of track densities and concentrations of spallation products in different samples of a meteorite to obtain information about the long-term averaged energy-spectrum and flux of cosmic radiation.
