Variations is a classical and rock fusion album. The music was composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber and performed by his younger brother, the cellist Julian Lloyd Webber. The Lloyd Webber brothers were always very close but their two different careers (a rock musical composer and a classical cellist) meant that a collaboration seemed unlikely. It was not until Julian beat his brother in a bet on a Leyton Orient football match that Andrew was forced to write his cello work.

Pygmy music refers to the sub-Saharan African music traditions of the Central African foragers (or "Pygmies"), predominantly in the Congo, the Central African Republic and Cameroon. Pygmy groups include the Bayaka, the Bambuti, and the Batwa. Music is an important part of Pygmy life, and casual performances take place during many of the day's events.

Alternative Title: Mbuti. Bambuti, also called Mbuti, a group of Pygmies of the Ituri Forest of eastern Congo (Kinshasa). They are the shortest group of Pygmies in Africa, averaging under 4 feet 6 inches (137 cm) in height, and are perhaps the most famous. In addition to their stature, they also differ in blood type from their Bantu- and Sudanic-speaking agriculturalist neighbours, and they are probably the earliest inhabitants of the area. The Bambuti of eastern Congo (Kinshasa) often use up to six flutes, each playing variations of a different ostinato pattern. Known collectively as the Bambuti (Mbuti), they are probably the earliest inhabitants of the region.

The subspecies C. l. heslopi (Heslop’s Pygmy Hippopotamus) is known only from the Niger Delta, Nigeria. It was considered a distinct subspecies by Corbet (1969) and Coryndon (1977), based on variations in cranial anatomy. Assessment Information. IUCN Red List Category and Criteria. The historic distribution of the Pygmy Hippo was far more extensive than the distribution today. Populations have disappeared from many sites and become fragmented across the landscape. There are confirmed recent records from localities in each of the four range countries and additional sites that have not been surveyed in recent years may still harbour Pygmy Hippo populations (Mallon et al. 2011). Full details of the current distribution are therefore unknown but a best assessment is provided by Mallon et al.
