During this period, Veloso, Bethânia, Gilberto Gil, Gal Costa, Tom Zé, and Os Mutantes developed "Tropicalismo", which fused Brazilian pop with rock and roll and avant-garde music. Veloso describes the movement as a wish to be different - not "defensive" like the right-wing Brazilian military government, which vehemently opposed the movement. In 2011, he again contributed two songs to the Red Hot Organization's most recent compilation album, Red Hot + Rio 2. The two tracks include a remix of "Terra" by Prefuse 73 ("3 Mellotrons in a Quiet Room Version") and "Dreamworld: Marco de Canaveses, in collaboration with David Byrne. The contributions by Caetano Veloso and Gilberto Gil are satisfactory, but there are many other compilations with better selections. From Gil, there is a live version of "Iemanja" that moves along at a good clip with a killer vocal, but the sound is muddy. Veloso's tunes are all forgettable. Of these tracks, it's the album's closer, "Silençio De Un Minuto," that Bethania has recorded no less than three other times, that is the finest track on the album; a ballad in the purest, most aching sense of the word, her dry, smoky delivery creates a wall of tears for the listener to sift her way through, whether or not they. This isn't an excellent compilation by any stretch of the imagination, but it is worth the budget price because of the Bethania performances alone.
