Hush" is a song written by American composer and musician Joe South, for recording artist Billy Joe Royal, whose single peaked at number 52 on the Billboard Hot 100 on 28 October – 11 November 1967, and No. 45 in Canada Deep Purple and Kula Shaker had later hits with covers of the song. 1 Billy Joe Royal version. 2 Deep Purple version.

Off their hit album Shades of Deep Purple, the song itself made it to number four. Originally recorded by Billy Joe Royal in 1967, it was covered by Deep Purple the following year. The song was their first single and their only top ten hit until Smoke on the Water in 1973.
