We're Not Gonna Take It" is a song by the American band Twisted Sister from their album Stay Hungry. It was first released as a single (with "You Can't Stop Rock & Roll" as the B-side) on April 27, 1984. The Stay Hungry album was released two weeks later, on May 10, 1984. The single reached No. 21 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart, making it Twisted Sister's only Top 40 single

We're Not Gonna Take It" is the final track on the Who's rock opera Tommy. Written by Pete Townshend, the song also contains the "See Me, Feel Me" anthem that is central to the structure of Tommy. According to Pete Townshend, "We're Not Gonna Take It" was not originally written for the Tommy storyline. He instead says that it was inspired by the people's reaction to politics.

In 1985, the PMRC included We’re Not Gonna Take It on their infamous ‘filthy fifteen’, citing it for ‘violence’, as part of their campaign to get records they found offensive labeled with a parental advisory sticker. Snider testified in court against them, pointing out, there is absolutely no violence of any type either sung about or implied anywhere in the song . Despite their next single reaching and the lead single of their next album peaking at in the US, the band is still often labeled a one hit wonder there. One example is in 2013 when VH1 named the band the greatest one hit wonder.

On their 2006 album A Twisted Christmas, they did a version of "O Come, All Ye Faithful" with using the traditional lyrics but set to the music of "We're Not Gonna Take I. Dee Snider started writing this song in 1980, two years before Twisted Sister released their first album, Under the Blade. He had the hook, but couldn't come up with a verse melody. After Def Leppard released their Pyromania album in 1983, Snider came up with a plan

Oh, you're so condescending, your gall is never ending We don't want nothing, not a thing, from you Your life is trite and jaded, boring and confiscated If that's your best, your best won't do. We're right, yeah We're free, yeah We'll fight, yeah You'll see, yeah. We're not gonna take it No, we ain't gonna take it We're not gonna take it anymore We're not gonna take it No, we ain't gonna take it We're not gonna take it anymore. We're Not Gonna Take It" lyrics provided for educational purposes and personal use only.
