Swollen Monkeys were an American jazz funk horn driven band. Every rock generation has its hip hornmen. As an outgrowth of Ohio's Tin Huey/Waitresses axis, the Swollen Monkeys (which featured Ralph Carney of the Hueys and Mars Williams, later of the Psychedelic Furs, as well as future Shimmy-Disc supremo Mark Kramer on "noisy tape loops") brought an anarchic new wave sensibility to horn-happy Spike Jones-influenced tooting.

Swollen Monkeys: Afterbirth of the Cool I've been a fan of the irrepressible Ralph Carney since Tin Huey, but he doesn't have a bandleader's sense of purpose. Moderately entertaining on stage with its four or five horns and almost as many clever lyrics, his polka-to-salsa "world rhythms" outfit comes perilously close to mess on record, where you can't see how unpretentious their highjinks are.

You're My Li'l Puta is an audiovisual musical satire about a medical cannabis activist and his ex-girlfriend," says video artist Tony Mindcontrole of the "popumentary" DVD he's working on with his band the Swollen Monkeys. The ex-girlfriend falls into the depths of meth and sexual addiction, becoming a pathological liar and completely changing from her formerly shy and honest persona.
Alexander David Turner. After watching friends perform in local bands, Turner, Helders, Nicholson and another friend, Jamie Cook, decided to form Arctic Monkeys in mid-2002. In the early days of the band, Helders has recalled that Turner "wasn’t necessarily going to be the singer" but was the obvious candidate for lyricist: "I knew he had a thing for words.
Birth Of The Cool shows Davis’s early playing style, as most of the album is consisted of bebop ballads, as well as some tunes that have the structure of an early pop song. Though Birth Of The Cool wasn’t released until 1957, this is the point in Davis’s career where he started to raise his playing level dramatically. The song selection on Birth Of The Cool is limited to a select few Davis tunes, as most of the tracks are covers. Though they may be covers, Davis gives them a good name, idealizing each tune to perfection
The album became an orchestrated departure from bebop, with the word orchestrated meaning both the use of orchestration and a deliberate action. The collection's origins are a bit disjointed. It is a compilation album by the Miles Davis' Nonet (group of nine musicians) released in 1957 from 11 tracks recorded over the course of three sessions during 1949 and 1950. The key style differences achieved on the album were the paired instrumentation and the orchestrated sound coming from nine member group versus the big band standard 18 musicians.
