The Temple Expiatori de la Sagrada Família is a large unfinished Roman Catholic church in Barcelona. Designed by Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí (1852–1926), his work on the building is part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In November 2010, Pope Benedict XVI consecrated the church and proclaimed it a minor basilica. In 1882, construction of Sagrada Família began under architect Francisco de Paula del Villar.

Sagrada Familia was designed by Antony Gaudí and started constructing in 1882, the church still hasn't complete after more than 130 years. Pope Benedict XVI consecrated and proclaimed Sagrada Familia a basilica in November 2010. The whole name of Sagrada Familia in Catalan is "Basílica i Temple Expiatori de la Sagrada Família", literally means Basilica and Expiatory Church of the Holy Family, the name is often shortened as "The Basilica of the Sagrada Família", "La Sagrada Família" or directly "Sagrada Família".

At the Sagrada Família, our commitment to technology goes back a long way. For many years now, we’ve also been bringing it into our work with stone, the main architectural material at the Temple. The Sagrada Família began its path of innovation and transformation under Gaudí, two centuries ago. In fact, he was the one to promote the use of three-dimensional representations in designing the Temple, as well as geometry as the base of his architecture and the use of recycled materials, plus a long etcetera that we still.

The instigator of the construction of the Sagrada Familia was Josep Maria Bocabella i Verdaguer, a devoted and very cultured bookseller who in the year 1866 founded "The Spiritual Association of Devotees of Saint Joseph".
