Recorded Live at the Monterey Jazz Festival is a live album by saxophonist John Handy, recorded in 1965 and released in 1966. It is Handy's most famous album and his debut on Columbia. The original album only features two long instrumental pieces, notable for their "free form", a peculiar use of harmonies and unusual instruments (violin and guitar along with more "classic" jazz instruments are uncommon in jazz music)

At Monterey in 1965, before an arena packed with 7000 people sitting in the blazing sun, Jazz saxist John Handy turned his band loose and they broke it up. They played two numbers, the performances in this album, and they were the hit of the Festival. People gave Handy a standing ovation and talked about what they had heard for weeks. Tears of Ole Miss (Anatomy of a Riot) is on the CD, but not on the LP or on the MP3 recording and is in fact from Handy’s album, New View, recorded live at the Village Gate with Bobby Hutchinson on vibes. This unusual ensemble consists of Handy, Mike White on violin, Jerry Hahn on guitar, Don Thompson on bass, and Terry Clarke on drums.
