The Tunes of Two Cities is a 1982 album by The Residents. Part two of The Mole Trilogy, the album collects and contrasts examples of the music of the Mole and Chub cultures. The tracks alternate between the fluffy, Art Deco music of the superficial Chubs and the dark, tribal music of the Moles. The Tunes of Two Cities was the first album The Residents made featuring their new toy, the EM-U Emulator.

Commercial Album is an album released by the Residents in 1980. It is commonly considered a follow-up of Duck Stab/Buster & Glen. The album pares down the concept and structure of the average commercial pop song and reduces it to a one-minute redux. It contains a compilation of 40 such sixty-second vignettes. It's a strange album, but full of good work. Smack Your Lips and Clap Your Teeth" is as funky (if that's the term) as the group had gotten up to this point; "God of Darkness" is chilling in texture, and "Song of the Wild" combines beauty and loneliness with a plaintive cry. The last song "Happy Home," would come to be the show stopper at the live Mole Show concerts, and outlines the Chub's philosophy: "People must be left alone/Unless they have a happy home.

Point One – Pop Music is mostly a repetition of two types of musical and lyrical phrases: The verse and the chorus. Point Two: These elements usually repeat three times in a three minute song, the type usually found on Top 40 radio. Point Three: Cut out the fat, and a pop song is only one minute long. Then, record albums can hold their own Top 40:twenty minutes per side. Point Four: One minute is also the length of most commercials, and therefore their corresponding jingles.

1979's Eskimo was the first Residents album to enjoy major coverage in the music press and represented a critical and commercial breakthrough for the musicians. The album purported to be adapted from traditional Inuit folktales and melodies, though a careful listen revealed this was a put-on. In 1981 the Residents launched their Mole Trilogy, a prog rock collection of albums - 1981's The Mark of the Mole, 1982's The Tunes of Two Cities, and 1985's The Big Bubbles - recounting an epic battle between a pair of tribes named the Moles and the Chubs, though The Big Bubbles was billed as "Part Four" of the series and a.
