TITLE added to MP3 cart. Original Television Soundtrack The Vampire Diaries. The music is incredible, in fact, there isn't one song on the album that I don't love. There are some surprisingly fun tracks like "Obsession" by Sky Ferreira and "Head Over Heels" by Digital Daggers, but if you want a CD to listen to that is emotionally powerful and great for when you are in more of a mellow mood, this is the one for you.

The centerpiece to The Vampire Diaries is Obsession, the debut American single from 18-year old Sky Ferreira, which should delight fans of overblown, auto-tuned electropop. While Obsession was not specifically written for the show, the lyrical content keeps it from ever feeling out of place. In all honesty, I have never read or seen The Vampire Diaries. From what I have gathered from promotional clips and the album’s press release, the sort of content on the show gives me the assumption of a soundtrack featuring a mix of the sort of ballads that are paired with emotional climaxes and songs that hint at the mysterious and sensual.

Unfortunately, this first soundtrack (as there will surely be more in the offing) suffers from a definite mid-section lull dedicated to the kind of fraught MOR ballads tailor-made to accompany angsty scenes of teenage - or eternal, whatever - heartbreak. A couple of fine ballads do stand out, the understated 'Bloodstream' from Stateless and a cover of Tears for Fears' 'Head Over Heels' from Digital Daggers included.
