For me this stole the show, a work of pure genius by a massively understated band. Yes Queen were good for entertainment/rock cliches/crowd involvement etc but not in the same league as this.

Dire Straits played a nearly 10 minute version with lots of saxophone at Live Aid in 1985. Nat, "Sultans of Swing" might have the best guitar solo ever played or recorded, but it's not the studio version. The live version on their Alchemy album can battle it out w/ the many bootlegged versions for the absolute best. I'll take the one I heard, from a benefit concert, I belive, featuring Eric Clapton.

Sultans of Swing’ was originally written on a National Steel guitar in an open tuning, though I never performed it that way, Dire Straits’ Mark Knopfler told a few years ago. I thought it was dull, but as soon as I bought my first Strat in 1977, the whole thing changed, though the lyrics remained the same
