Talk about Offenbach - Gaité Parisienne - Ballet, Plus A Program Of Russian Music

Cogelv
Since setting up my new turntable, this was the first simulated stereo LP that I had listened to, and it was somewhat shocking. The turntable with nice-ish stereo cartridge (an AT1240 with the Shure M97xE cart) yielded one surprising fact about this recording to me: It's just not that good! Whether the original musicianship was good or not (this seems to be a legacy recording, but I haven't found the exact original version yet), the electronic re-recording has left this stereo version strangely flat and dead, at least to my ears. For some pieces of music or historical recordings this might be excusable, but for something as lively as the Gaité Parisienne, or indeed for NRK's "Flight of the Bumble Bee", it's just not good enough. I'll be listening with interest to other simulated stereo recordings that I have: hopefully, they're not all as poor as this one!
