Stranger Cole, also known as StrangeJah Cole (born Wilburn Theodore Cole, July 26 1942) is a Jamaican singer whose long recording career dates from the early days of ska in 1962 through to the present (2019). Cole was born in Kingston, Jamaica in July 26 1942 and nicknamed "Stranger" by his family, as they considered that he didn't resemble any member of his family. Cole was initially successful as a songwriter, writing "In and out the Window", which was a hit for Eric "Monty" Morris.

Stranger Cole, also known as StrangeJah Cole (born Wilburn Theodore Cole, 1945) is a Jamaican singer whose long recording career dates from the early days of ska in 1962 through to the 2000s Cole's son, Squiddly, followed him into a music career, working as a drummer for artists including Ziggy Marley and Mutabaruka.
Stranger Cole, Album. Bangarang: The Best of Stranger Cole 1962-1972. This double-CD (spanning 54 tracks) is the first serious retrospective of Stranger Cole's delightful body of work. Born "Wilburn Cole" and nicknamed "Stranger" because he resembled no one else in his family, Cole's first Jamaican hit came in 1962 with "Rough and Tough," which featured a loping ska riff and a manic harmonica solo. As the ska era waned, Cole left Reid and began working with producer Sonia Pottinger, moving on to several other producers, including Lee "Scratch" Perry, Bunny "Striker" Lee, and Joe Gibbs, as reggae took hold in Jamaica. Having grown into a mature and soulful vocalist, Cole's compassion and humor are everywhere, evident on later tracks here like "Last Flight To Reggae City," the loopy, clarinet-led "Bangarang," and his imaginatively re-tooled cover of the Guess Who's "These Eyes.
Syl Johnson, Ken Boothe, Ken Boothe & Stranger Cole, Ernest Ranglin, Nat King Cole and more. This show was 83rd in the global funk - soul - jazz chart. Hommage au plus grand chanteur de soul jamaicain. Par ses interprétations de standards pop, des sons qui l'ont samplé, des versions de ses morceaux.
Ken Boothe was one of the most popular and soulful singers of the rocksteady era, arguably second only to Alton Ellis. Where Ellis was silky smooth, Boothe's vocals were deeper and grittier, earning him a reputation as Jamaica's answer to Wilson Pickett. Dodd encouraged Boothe to record as a solo artist, and he and Cole both embarked on solo careers. Some were covers of American and British rock and soul tunes, and most were for Dodd, although Boothe did take brief sojourns to other producers: Sonia Pottinger (1968's "Say You"), Keith Hudson ("Old Fashioned Way"), and Phil Pratt ("I'm Not for Sale," "Can't Fight Me Down").
