The early-'90s alt-rock revival was in full swing by the time Big Deal released June Gloom, and it wasn't surprising that the duo also adopted the trend. Their debut Lights Out already hinted that they had a fondness for that decade in its fuzzed-out guitars and the easygoing lilt in their melodies (plus they had a song called "Cool Like Kurt"). Here and throughout the album, Big Deal is nostalgic not just for the sounds of the '90s, but for the best - and worst - parts of being in love. They have a flair for cushioning those hard truths and questions in twinned vocals that recall not just dream pop's heyday, but the intimacy of classic singer/songwriters.

2013's June Gloom was released on June 4th and featured regularly on BBC 6Music radio. Released 10th June 2016, "Say Yes" was Big Deal's third and final album. Created during the break up of Costelloe and Underwood's relationship, the production of the album was also marred by losing all their demos when Underwood's laptop was stolen at a house party and leaving their record label Mute.

At its core June Gloom is a rock record that represents all aspects of the duo - their ability to communicate volumes in the almost stillness of their most spare compositions, plus tunes which soar thanks to Big Deal’s honeyed melodies set to slacker anthems.
