About the project, Byrd said: "I mean this album seriously. Because of my own background, I've always wanted to write an entire album of spiritual-like pieces

Trumpet – Donald Byrd. Vibraphone – Donald Best. Recorded on January 12, 1963. 1st original issue has: - Blue and White labels with New York USA address. Some might have a deep groove but not necessarily because with the introduction of the New York USA label, the first pressing of around 180 new titles by Blue Note all are no deep groove.

A New Perspective ‎(LP, Album, RE). Blue Note. there appears to be copies of this album that have every mark of an original blue note pressing minus "the ear" in the deadwax. most likely a result of left over stock labels/sleeves that were used up in the early days of Liberty taking over Blue Note. Instead of the ear, they have the perplexing "114" lightly etched on both sides.

As for Donald Byrd - A new Perspective I'm told the 1960's mono vinyls are the ones to beat but they are very pricey these days in excellent playing condition. One person found this helpful.

A New Perspective is unlike any jazz album you've heard before-and the change is refreshing. The biggest difference? Voices-singers, but not jazz singers. A New Perspective includes a seven-voice gospel choir, singing wordless syllables. Not scat, but pure notes. At first, the choir feels wrong. The very first notes of this 1963 album are voices. They start with a powerful gospel feel, but then quickly change to a more pop-ish, happy-happy 1960s mode. It's jarring and not very jazzy.

A New Perspective is a 1964 album by jazz trumpeter Donald Byrd released on the Blue Note label as BLP 4124 and BST 84124. The performances are mainly in a hard bop style, but the recording also features a gospel choir. Because of my own background, I've always wanted to write an entire album of spiritual-like pieces. The most accurate way I can describe what we were all trying to do is that this is a modern hymnal

This unusual set was one of the most successful uses of a gospel choir in a jazz context. Trumpeter Donald Byrd and a septet that includes tenor saxophonist Hank Mobley, guitarist Kenny Burrell, and pianist Herbie Hancock are joined by an eight-voice choir directed by Coleridge Perkinson. The arrangements by Duke Pearson are masterful and one song, "Cristo Redentor," became a bit of a hit. This is a memorable effort that is innovative in its own way, a milestone in Donald Byrd's career. 1 Elijah Donald Byrd 9:20.
