So Red the Rose is the platinum-selling album by the Duran Duran-spinoff group Arcadia, which was released in 1985 - the only album the band ever released. It included the singles "Election Day", "Goodbye Is Forever" and "The Flame". The album peaked at on the Billboard 200 in January 1986 and at on the UK Albums charts in December 1985. There were many musical guests on the album, including David Gilmour, Herbie Hancock, Grace Jones, and Sting (who provided backing vocals on "The Promise").

When Arcadia released So Red the Rose, Duran Duran had just come off of ruling the world with Seven and the Ragged Tiger. Powerstation had hit it big with meaty, muscular guitars and sexy vocals from Robert Palmer. Simon, Nick, and Roger answered that gauntlet with an album that seemed to capture the most elegant aspects of Duran Duran. This CD is actually a compilation of 2 Arcadia releases from 1985. So Red The Rose" which is the original release that has been fantastically remastered, and "Heavens Eyes" (Bootleg) which has remixed and extended versions of some of the songs from SRTR. Heavens Eyes" is really the Gem that I wanted to get my hands on because it has been an extremely rare album to find in any form (cassette, LP, CD). But finally we have it here in remastered form and it sounds GREAT.

Also, IIRC, So Red the Rose didn't recover its huge costs so another Arcadia album seems unlikely. Particularly as the only constants in Duran Duran since 1980 are Simon Le Bon and Nick Rhodes. Much rougher but worth a listen is the little-heard album Rhodes made with Stephen Duffy in 2002 (?) as The Devils. I was obsessed with it when it came out in 1985. I was 16 and playing keys for about a year. I have the February 1986 issue of Keyboard with him on the cover and the inside story is pretty much all about the recording of So Red The Rose. Arcadia was the arty quarter of Duran Duran's side project. They still strove to create the "western evocative of east" blueprinted by Japan's Tin Drum.
