Winston Holness, better known as Niney the Observer (born George Boswell, 1951, Montego Bay), is a Jamaican record producer and singer who was a key figure in the creation of many classic reggae recordings dating from the 1970s and early 1980s. Holness gained his nickname "Niney" after losing a thumb in a workshop accident. In the latter half of the 1960s he worked as an engineer at KG records, where he began producing. His first release was his own composition "Come on Baby" issued on his Destroyer label.

Sledgehammer Dub includes purely instrumental dub versions of classic songs by the Heptones ("Why Must I") and Dennis Brown ("Voice of My Father"), among others; the CD version's four bonus tracks include a haunting dub cut of Big Youth's "4 Dead 19 Gone a Jail. This reissue is pressed on 180 gram vinyl and comes in a full color sleeve. Classic dub from the era of classic dub! Product details. Vinyl (October 16, 2015). This is classic Dub! This original album was released in a very small quantity (300-400) on blank stock in the late '70s. The tracks are all instrumental with the accent (of course) on the deep organic bass lines along with some period wah-wah guitar and keyboards. The rhythms are from great tunes and have been dubbed up for a great authentic sound. Listen to "Traveling Version", "You're No Dub Baby", "God Bless My Dub", or "Rich and Poor Dub" for good examples of Niney's work.
