Album · 1966 · 10 Songs. Ken Kesey Interviewed By Frank Frey. 2. Ken Babbs and Harmonica. 3. Take Two: Ken Kesey.

But most of the album consists of rambling remarks by Babbs spoken over sound effects and snatches of harmonica, flute, and percussion playing. At "The End," Kesey says it's time for the Grateful Dead to sing, but Jerry Garcia demurs, declaring his voice to be shot. This is the audio residue of a drug trip that no doubt was more of an experience for the participants than for later listeners. It is, however, certainly an artifact of the psychedelic ‘60s.

Kenneth Elton Kesey (/ˈkiːziː/; September 17, 1935 – November 10, 2001) was an American novelist, essayist, and countercultural figure. Kesey was born in La Junta, Colorado, and grew up in Springfield, Oregon, graduating from the University of Oregon in 1957.

This is not a music album, but a record of interviews and observations (with a little bit of The Worlocks playing in the background) conducted during an Acid Test in 1964. This is where the phrase Psychedelic Rock was born. was made for just a few people, and was not intended for general release.

The acid test parties began after Kesey’s experience with mind-altering drugs as a volunteer test subject for Army experiments in 1960 (later revealed to be part of the CIA’s mind control experiment, Project MKUltra). Kesey stole LSD and invited friends to try it with him. In 1965, after Hunter S. Thompson introduced Kesey to the Hell’s Angels, he expanded his test parties to real happenings at larger venues, beginning at his home in La Honda, California
