Memorial Album is an album by American jazz trumpeter Clifford Brown composed of tracks recorded at two sessions in 1953 and originally released on the Blue Note label in September 1956. Apart from a few obscure recordings, the album represents the first tracks recorded under Brown's leadership.

Johnny Ace had been drinking and he had this little pistol he was waving around the table and someone said ‘Be careful with that thin. and he said ‘It’s okay! Gun’s not loade. ee?’ and pointed it at himself with a smile on his face and ‘Bang!’ – sad, sad thing. Big Mama ran outta that dressing room yelling ‘Johnny Ace just killed himself!". Thornton said in a written statement (included in the book The Late Great Johnny Ace) that Ace had been playing with the gun, but not playing Russian roulette  . the Swiss Singer Polo Hofer and the Schmetterband wrote the Song & Ace& in 1985 - it was released on the album Giggerig. Dave Alvin's 2011 release, Eleven Eleven, contains a song describing his death, called "Johnny Ace is Dead.

Johnny Ace – vocal Backing Bands - Johnny Otis' Orchestra; Johnny Board & Orch. In the weeks and months following Johnny Ace's tragic passing on Christmas Eve 1954, demand for his songs was at an all-time high. The resulting Memorial Album (1955) gathered a baker's dozen of Ace's most memorable selections, documented between the spring of 1952 and the summer of 1954. There are no unissued numbers on the disc, as each of the tracks had previously surfaced on a variety of 78s. However concurrent audiences no doubt.
