Beggar's Opera - Act One flac album

Scottish 70's proggers Beggar's Opera signed to Vertigo label in the early 70's and carried that expressive yet highly progressively exploratory prowess found in many of the Vertigo bands. Act One" was their debut album and featured some pretty amazing musicianship and song writing including an ode to composer Suppe's popular "Poet and Peasant" overture which opens up this album. Essentially this album is organ led with full support by the bass, guitar and drum.

In 1970, after signing to Vertigo Records, the band recorded their first album Act One, and a single "Sarabande", which charted record in several European countries. The following year, for their second album, Waters of Change, the band were joined by Virginia Scott The single "Time Machine" from that In 1974/76 a new version of Beggars Opera recorded two albums for Jupiter Records in Germany; "Sagittary", featuring Ricky Gardiner (guitar), Pete Scott (vocals), Virginia Scott (Mellotron) (born in 1948, Glasgow, Strathclyde, Scotland) and Mike Travis (drums), and "Beggars Can't Be Choosers" with Clem Cattini replacing Mike Travis on drums.

Defiantly cast in the shadow of the then-recently defunct Nice, but brimming with their own ideas and imagination, Beggars Opera emerged in 1970 with a debut album that still stands as one of the crown jewels of prog. Five tracks long in its original (Vertigo label) form, but bolstered with both sides of their debut single for the Repertoire CD, Act One is an audacious blending of hard riffs, Heep-esque vocals, and crazed organ and Mellotron, and it's those latter elements that most distinctly flavor the album.
