Blue Mountain is the third solo album by former Grateful Dead singer and guitarist Bob Weir, released on September 30, 2016. The album was inspired by his time working as a ranch hand in Wyoming when he was fifteen years old. It is Weir's first solo studio album since Heaven Help the Fool, released in 1978. Blue Mountain reached on the Billboard 200 album chart.

Pitched as Weir’s cowboy album -and the songs are largely about that- Mountain is both a collection of contemporary Americana and something more. While some of the material would likely sound at home in the Dead’s repertoire, like the good-natured gallop of Gonesville, it’s hard to imagine the latter lineups of the band treating the music quite so elegantly as Kaufman and company.

Bob Weir has unveiled details of his new solo record, Blue Mountain, set for release this fall. It’s his first new solo record in a decade and the first composed of entirely new material in 30 years. The album will be released on September 30th via Weir’s new label home, Columbia/Legacy. Recorded in 2015 at a variety of locations and co-produced by Josh Kaufman, Blue Mountain features guitarists Aaron Dessner and Bryce Dessner, and bassist Scott Devendorf.
