Slow Focus is Fuck Buttons' first album since 2009's Tarot Sport. Once again abiding by their fundamental rule that ''we must always be in the same room when writing,'' what Fuck Buttons have created on Slow Focus is something that feels more close-up than ever before, a first-person view through winding pathways set against a frequently aggressive and constantly evolving terrain. Best New Music On ''Slow Focus,'' their first album in four years, Fuck Buttons remain devoted to forbidding, elemental sensations, and their slow-moving pieces inspire the kinds of big feelings- exhilaration, majesty, awe- that double as reminders of our smallness. Listening to their progression, from 2008's ''Street Horrrsing'' to now, you get the sense of tinkerers building obsessively retooled versions of the monolith from ''2001: A Space Odyssey,'' each bigger than the last.

Album · 2013 · 5 Songs. Slow Focus, the duo’s third full-length release, shows again that the Buttons-what with all the permutations the name is subjected to-are incredibly good at what they do. Rhythmic machinations push and pull squealing, pinging, whooshing, humming synths and brittle, staccato percussion into a myriad of shapes and forms, and their instrumental prowess shows a keen awareness of how critical it is to put something fresh into each track. Two guys (Andrew Hung and Benjamin Power, who met in art school in England) use a bunch of electronic gear-and other odds and ends-to make some utterly entrancing.

Fuck Buttons - 'Slow Focus'. There have been noise acts in the past who have achieved some degree of commercial success, and there will be plenty more in the future. Street Horrrsing’, their 2008 debut album, was the sound of a band still in its developmental stage – indebted to the pleasures of the undulating drone and the crunchy techno stomp, made extra boisterous by shouty processed vocals. It was swiftly followed by ‘Tarot Sport’, on which the Hung/Power vision began to crystallise. Songs mainly ran to upwards of eight minutes, ample time to induce krautrock euphoria and simultaneously sandpaper your frontal lobes.

Slow Focus is Fuck Buttons’ first self produced album and they didn't want to do things by halves. They got their own studio together (it’s called ‘Space Mountain’ and used to be a storage room) and laid down the tracks at their own pace. Producing the album ourselves was a logical step. With the first two albums, we weren’t as technologically aware of the software you could use in a recording sense. Slow Focus was their own work entirely until it was sent off to be mastered

Slow Focus is Fuck Buttons' fullest realization of this Third Way yet, a masterful synthesis of seemingly incompatible elements into a full-on maelstrom of churning rhythms and power-drill drones. The enduring quality of Fuck Buttons work lies in their finely tuned awareness of one another, which is what makes their third album Slow Focus a towering achievement.

So let’s put it this way: Slow Focus is the album Fuck Buttons were born to make. It takes all of the impulses displayed across their previous two records – 2008’s Street Horrrsing and 2009’s Tarot Sport – and refines them into something cold, methodical and deadly. It isn’t called Slow Focus for nothing

Fuck Buttons are Andrew Hung and Benjamin John Power, a two-piece experimental group based in London, England, UK. Formed in late 2004 and signed to ATP Recordings, releasing the Bright Tomorrow b/w "Little Bloody Shoulder" 7" single during the fall of 2007. They released their first album Street Horrrsing in 2008 and received widespread acclaim. Their second album Tarot Sport was released in 2009.

Talk about Fuck Buttons - Slow Focus

With their wild blend of space rock, kraut and dance it seemed British duo Fuck Buttons (partly by that band name) the ultimate underground act. But all of a sudden echoed their most catchy number Olympians (a tribute to Vangelis) of their album Tarot Sport (2009) during the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games. On Slow Focus search Andrew Hung and Benjamin Power wont turn the darkness on with a dose of gritty and vintage electronic music. A song like Stalker does, with its mechanical rhythms and analogue of scratchy noise even think to the ritual industrial bands such as The Allergy Group and Cabaret Voltaire. But what happens if the particular lengths increase the best songs from Fuck Buttons invariably do: they rise up and touches every sense of time search. Slow Focus may sound more abstract, darker and more impenetrable than Tarot Sport but is certainly a strong Fuck Buttons-plate.

Read a number of reviews on this album, not that I should take notice, but many reviews gave a low score and said had no impact, or dull.. what where they listening to this album on? kids $25 ipod dock?!

Absolute. Hard to understand some reviewers. In my opinion one of the essential albums of the last years, in a lot of directions. One of the albums they re-discover in 2050 probably to describe the 2010ers.
