The Great Momentum is the ninth studio album by Austrian symphonic metal band Edenbridge. It was released on 17 February 2017 on the SPV label. Bassist Wolfgang Rothbauer left Edenbridge in 2016, so Lanvall performed the bass in the recording of this album. Drummer Max Pointner had also quit in 2016, being replaced by new drummer Johannes Jungreithmeier.

The Great Momentum starts off on the right foot with opener Shiantara surpassing anything from their previous album in terms of quality. The downtuned commencing riff is kinda cheeseball, but shit gets real as the song moves along, leading to a bombastic Muse-like chorus that's as majestic as it is urgent. Even the lesser songs in the Edenbridge catalogue are redeemed through her fantastic voice, and it once again is the driving force on the first song here, where she sounds stunning amidst great riffs and stirring orchestration. The chorus is magnificent, catchy through the riff and vocals but imbued with power from the orchestration, which is never overbearing throughout the album but gels incredibly well with the music, something which a lot of symphonic metal bands can’t get a good balance with.

The Great Momentum, Australian Symphonic Metal outfit Edenbridge’s 8th studio album, will appeal to the more pedestrian fans of acts like Nightwish, Xandria, Dark Moor and perhaps Crystal Viper. What the album lacks in inspiration and originality, it makes up for with mirror-perfect polished production, lush arrangements and performances that would rival the biggest big budget film scores. With the exception of the speedy album opener Shiantara, most of the tracks fall into the mid-tempo or ballad category where they can benefit the most from the thick mixes and production techniques.
