A locus amoenus is usually a beautiful, shady lawn or open woodland, or a group of idyllic islands, sometimes with connotations of Eden or Elysium. Ernst Robert Curtius wrote the concept's definitive formulation in his European Literature and the Latin Middle Ages (1953).

Locus Amoenus biography Locus Amoenus were formed San Michele di Serino, a small town in the province of Avellino, Italy in 2010 by Alessio Vito (vocals, guitar, flute), Raffaele Purgante (electric guitar), Alessandro Ragano (bass) and Mauro Cefalo (drums). In their first year, the band mainly played covers of Italian singer-songwriters such as Rino Gaetano, Francesco Guccini, Fabrizio De Andr� and others, but soon their live shows expanded to include a mix of original progressive material in both English and Italian. The musicians contrast soft and heavy, electric and acoustic passages with plenty of brooding atmosphere, and this first Locus Amoenus album is one of the best Italian prog titles that appeared in 2013.
