Millie & Andrea Musician. Both stalwarts of Manchester's Modern Love imprint, Andy Stott forged a partnership with Miles Whittaker (from Pendle Coven and Demdike Stare) in 2008 Millie & Andrea's biography.

Millie & Andrea is the project of Andy Stott and Demdike Stare's Miles Whittaker. On their debut LP, the duo offer a mix of hollow dub techno, into-the-red noise, and breakbeats that hiss and spit with static, but the extra flourishes are what prove most surprising. Millie & Andrea is the project of Andy Stott and Demdike Stare's Miles Whittaker.

Millie & Andrea have announced their debut album, Drop The Vowels. Formerly an anonymous project, eventually revealed as Miles Whittaker and Andy Stott, Millie & Andrea released a series of 12″s for Modern Love sub-label Daphne between 2008 and 2010, drawing from hardcore, piano house, jungle and more. It’s an album borne from a love of both pop and club music, made to evoke an adrenalised, hedonistic, as well as an emotional response.

Millie & Andrea have an impressive irreverence for sounds that most people would consider, well, pleasant. Drop The Vowels is an unpolished, pulsing, descent that embraces its dark hue, even when taking on footwork and jungle inspired dance grooves. And of course what would the prototypical album framework be without an ambient wash to wrap things up? Quay does just that, but don’t think of it as a throwaway. It’s a hypnotic, satisfying cut in line with 2013 releases from Tim Hecker and Oneohtrix Point Never. Drop The Vowels is a rather tongue-in-cheek title, poking fun at the momentarily fashionable stage-name forms of acts such as TNGHT and SBTRKT. About Millie & Andrea. Demdike Stare's Miles Whittaker (Millie) and the otherwise solo Andy Stott (Andrea), two of the most creative experimental techno producers of the 2000s and 2010s, released their first collaboration, the Black Hammer 12", in 2008. For the next several years, the duo continued to collaborate on a semi-regular basis, and they also used their female aliases individually, as they somewhat whimsically sifted through longstanding interests (dub techno) and other fascinations (juke, trap) while situating themselves in the hardcore continuum.

Stott's album Luxury Problems received top album awards on both Resident Advisor and Pitchfork Media in 2012 Artistry. Stott analogised making his music as a scientist who creates compounds by figuring out formulas that use studio gadgets and parts of other music. He never borrows inspiration from his personal experiences when he produces material.
