The Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra is a Russian classical music radio orchestra established in 1930. It was founded as the Moscow Radio Symphony Orchestra, and served as the official symphony for the Soviet All-Union Radio network. Following the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991, the orchestra was renamed in 1993 by the Russian Ministry of Culture in recognition of the central role the music of Tchaikovsky plays in its repertoire

Sergei Rachmaninov, Symphony No. 3 in A Minor, Op. 1. Lento-Allegro moderato. 2. Adagio ma non troppo-Allegro vivace. 3. Allegro-Allegro vivace-Allegro (Tempo primo)-Allegretto-Allegro vivace. By the time Rachmaninoff wrote his Third Symphony, the ductor had lived through years of difficult exile and melancholic homesickness. Caricatured by fellow composer and Russian exile Stravinsky as a six-and-a-half foot scowl, Rachmaninoff and his music appeared to some to be obsolete and hopelessly Romantic in face of the changes Western music had undergone in the early decades of the 20th century. Yet the composer’s Third Symphony is striking for its revolutionary treatment of the symphonic form and experimentation with color, rhythm, and instrumentation, with passages.

Symphony No. 3, Symphoni. has been added to your Cart. In three movements like the Third Symphony, the Symphonic Dances take even further the Third Symphony's modernism, its innovative scoring and leanness of texture, and its rhythmic audacity. The second subject of the First Movement is a test for the interpretation. I picked up Kogan's other two Rachmaninov discs and am looking forward to hearing them. 3 people found this helpful.
