Rock Bottom was in the planning stages when Robert Wyatt survived a fall from a fourth-floor window, a tumble that left him confined to a wheelchair and ended his career as British art-rock’s most endearingly maverick drummer. The mid-’70s Crimson line-up stood for taste and efficiency with a dry, dark wit, and Starless and Bible Black epitomized those qualities. For the first half of the album, the only remotely human touch is the rolled r when Ralf robo-sings, We are the robots.

Various artists, The Harder They Come soundtrack (1973) There was a lot more to the early years of reggae than Bob Marley & the Wailers, and the best of the rest is brilliantly summarized on this soundtrack album for one of the best fictional music films ever made. Once they realized they weren’t going to get any Wailers tracks, the filmmakers chose brilliantly. Whether pilfered directly from the Nerves (the breathless Hanging on the Telephone takes no prisoners) or stitched together, nursery rhyme-like from Buddy Holly’s Everyday (few melodies jangle so timelessly as Sunday Girl ), Debbie Harry and Chris Stein’s shrewd, sexy melodicism on these 12 classics clawed its way into the pantheon from the simple ambition to conquer any radio. It’s not their best album, but it’s the best at convincing serious young rock nerds that Devo were more than a silly footnote.

It peaked at N. in both the UK and the US. The musical revolution they had started had now officially gone worldwide. That album captured the energy of being on the road, Page said later. Arriving hard-at-heel after Pete Townshend’s aborted Lifehouse project, was supposed to be his defining moment of the 70s, a rock opera to out-Tommy anything that had gone before. If Tommy is rock opera, Quadrophenia is grand rock opera, says lifelong Townshend associate and Who biographer Richard Barnes.

Best of 70's Rock is a decent two-disc set that should really be titled "Best of 70's Pop," as it highlights 20 singles that made the pop charts throughout that decade. These are the original recordings and, with the exception of its awful cover art, this compilation is recommended. Track Listing - Disc 1. Title/Composer.
