Fuzz is an American rock band from San Francisco, California, formed in 2011. The band consists of Charles Moothart (vocals, guitar), Ty Segall (vocals, drums) and Chad Ubovich (vocals, bass). Created as an outlet for Moothart's affection for hard rock riffs, Fuzz began as collaboration between Moothart and Segall, while Moothart performed in Segall's live band. In 2012, the pair released two singles, "This Time I Got a Reason" and "Sleigh Ride", and were joined by bass guitarist Roland Cosio.

But Fuzz, the aptly named side project Segall formed in 2011 with high school friends Charlie Moothart and Chad Ubovich, is not the product of a short attention span. All that time gives Moothart the space to unleash some of his best work on the whole album, which comes in the form of the sludgy solo that precedes the song’s major shift.

Where the old Throw Down Bones was better suited for intimate venues and psych fests (of which they were a frequent staple, from Liverpool to Eindhoven and everywhere in between), this new evolution sees them turn their eyes to the most underground techno clubs and the sleaziest warehouse venues.

The second album from Ty Segall and Charles Moothart’s Sabbathian semi-supergroup (now featuring Meatbodies mainman Chad Ubovich on bass) lays on more of pretty much everything, and lays it on thick: it’s almost twice the length of the first, the recording is denser and punchier, the riffs are proggier and the solos wilder. At the other end, the 14-minute title-track finale goes up like a rocket before smearing into spaced-out abstractions and snapping back disorientingly; in between things stay more concise, sometimes heaving closer to Segall’s garagey solo material (Let It Live), elsewhere going all in with the full and unabashed Ozzy-Iommi worship (Pipe).

Three-piece Fuzz have disclosed information concerning their second album. II, the follow-up to 2013’s Fuzz, will be released via In The Red on October 23rd. If the sophomore album of stoner/classic metal troupe Fuzz reminds us of anything, it’s that music is its own museum. The appropriately titled opener Time Collapse II/The 7th Terror is an excitable medley of hard-hitting drives from Charlie Moothart and uppity whelps from Mr. Ty Segall (this time on drums), ascending the gears at just the right moments and flowing from one sinuous movement to the next with powerful finesse.
