Many, though not all French marches (in particular marches dating from the period of the French Revolution) make use of triplet feel; each beat can be felt as a fast triplet. Famous French marches include "Le Régiment de Sambre et Meuse", "La Victoire est à Nous", "Marche de la garde consulaire à Marengo", "La Galette", the "Chant du départ", "Le Chant des Africains", "Le Caïd", "la Marche Lorraine" and "Le Boudin". Spanish marches often have fanfares at the beginning or end of strains that are reminiscent of traditional and popular music. These marches often move back and forth between major and (relative) minor keys, and often show a great variation in tempo during the course of the march reminiscent of a prolonged Viennese rubato.

And fanfares and trumpets for the hunt. To this already prolix title are added numerous indications supplying a multitude of often picturesque details. There are some hunting fanfares in Philidor's manuscript collection, but still more interesting are those that the scholarly moving spirit of the Rallye Louvarts, Jean Pietri, has had the good fortune to rediscover in a volume by the famous Dampierre. Jean-François Paillard (Translated from the French by Helen Baker).

A fanfare is a short, showy, piece of music usually played for a special event. It is often played to announce the arrival of an important person, such as a king, queen or presidential leader. Fanfares are usually played by trumpets or French horns and other brass instruments, often with drums. The word "fanfare" can also mean an event with a high amount of publicity, even if there is no actual music.
