In 2016, Cherry Red Records released a two-CD deluxe version of Julia Fordham. Moon River" from Breakfast At Tiffany's, Blondie's "Call Me", Eurythmics' "Who's That Girl", and Janis Ian's "Seventeen" proved particularly popular with fans. The album also included two new compositions ("Like You Used to Do" and "The Morning After") plus another re-working of "Happy Ever After".

Live & Untouched. Mixed, Shaken & Stirred. Porcelain (1989) is her best album, but East West (1997) stripped down her usually sophisticated, Sting-style production to intimate voice and guitar. Unless you consider Lemmy of Motorhead to be the ne plus ultra in romance, pick up her career-spanning Collection - it shows that Fordham has always been too smart for Adult Contemporary and too polished for the Indie crowd. Julia, do you know any young, trendy directors? Nick Dedina.

In 1988, Fordham released her eponymously titled debut, Julia Fordham, which showed off her low, smoky jazz bar, dulcet voice and contained four singles: "The Comfort of Strangers," "Woman of the 80's," her first hit "Happy Ever After," and "Where Does the Time G. The following year, Porcelain consolidated her presence as a leading album artist  . She then spent the next year touring before returning with the 2016 remix album, Mixed, Shaken & Stirred.

Her chief limitation, though, is not her singing; it's her unsettling inability to sing a love song convincingly. Invisible War" is supposed to be regretful, but it comes out sounding analytical; "My Lover's Keeper" is supposed to sound supplicating (or something), but it comes out sounding dispassionately puzzled. And as for "Woman of the 80's," please - it's just a bit hard to take her seriously as an emotional casualty of feminism (nice chorus, though).
