Gothic Voices, conducted by Christopher Page, here uses all male voices, except for contralto Margaret Philpot, and they achieve a remarkably smooth blend in which, paradoxically, the integrity of the individual voices is never sacrificed. The vocal performances are interspersed with simple and effective chansons played by harpist Andrew Lawrence-King. The collection should be of strong interest to fans of polyphony of the late Middle Ages, and fans of pristine, but expressive choral performance.

Venus and Mars (or Mars and Venus) is a panel painting of about 1485 by the Italian Renaissance painter Sandro Botticelli. It shows the Roman gods Venus, goddess of love, and Mars, god of war, in an allegory of beauty and valour. The youthful and voluptuous couple recline in a forest setting, surrounded by playful baby satyrs
