Radio Producer David Isay proudly walks the path blazed by legendary Chicagoan Studs Terkel. Isay gives so-called ordinary people the space, the training, the forum to tell extraordinary stories about themselves and their world. One of those stories revolved around LeAlan Jones and Lloyd Newman, 13 and 14 year old friends growing up in the CHA’s Ida B. Wells Homes. Over 10 days, Jones and Newman recorded themselves and the people in their lives with a mix of seriousness and humor, opening a window to a world that few saw - and even fewer understood. It was called Ghetto Life 101, and it premiered here on WBEZ in 1993.
