Friday is one of the main characters of Daniel Defoe's 1719 novel Robinson Crusoe. Robinson Crusoe names the man Friday, with whom he cannot at first communicate, because they first meet on that day. The character is the source of the expression "Man Friday", used to describe a male personal assistant or servant, especially one who is particularly competent or loyal. Current usage also includes "Girl Friday".

Friday the 13th was the first new release following Man's 1983 reunion, and was recorded live at the London Marquee on, indeed, Friday, May 13, 1983 before a crowd that knew the songs as well as the band itself.

Friday the 13th Part 2, marketed as Friday the 13th Part II, is a 1981 slasher film and was the first sequel to the smash hit original.

Friday the 13th is considered an unlucky day in Western superstition. It occurs when the 13th day of the month in the Gregorian calendar falls on a Friday, which happens at least once every year but can occur up to three times in the same year,for example in 2015, the 13th fell on a Friday in February, March, and November. In 2017, it occurred twice, in January and October. In 2018, it also occurred twice, in April and July.
