String Quartet No. 6 Sz 144. 2-9. 1. Mesto – Più Mosso, Pesante – Vivace. Bartók, Tokyo String Quartet - The String Quartets ‎(3xCD, Album + Box).

Bartok: String Quartets Nos. 1 - 6. Imported ed. Import. Bartok's cyle of six string quartets is universally considered to be one of the finest of the Twentieth Century. My reference recording remains the Takacs Quartet, recorded for London Records in 1996, but this Alban Berg Quartett cycle recorded from 1983 to 1986 is a fine alternative in a different style. THE ALBAN BERG QUARTETT AND THE TAKACS QUARTET The Alban Berg Quartett performances are superb, and the recording quality is excellent.

The String Quartet No. 6, Sz. 114, BB 119, was the final string quartet that Béla Bartók wrote before his death. It was begun in August 1939 in Saanen, Switzerland, where Bartók was a guest of his patron, the conductor Paul Sacher. Shortly after he completed the Divertimento for String Orchestra on the 17th, he started on a commission for his friend, the violinist Zoltán Székely.

String Quartet No. 1, Op. 7 Sz40: II. poco a poco Accelerando All'Allegretto. 3. String Quartet No. 7 Sz40: III. Introduzione - Allegro - Allegro Vivace. 22. 6 Sz114: III. Mesto - Burletta - Moderato. 23. 6 Sz114: IV. Mesto.

Bartók: String Quartets Nos 1-6, Belcea Quartet. Despite the subsequent contributions by Shostakovich, Carter and Ferneyhough, Bartók's string quartets stand as the greatest achievement in the medium from the 20th century, and almost certainly the most significant since Beethoven.
