Chopin, Schumann, Sergei Rachmaninoff ‎– The Art Of Sergei Rachmaninoff - Vol. 1. Label: RCA Camden ‎– CAL 396.

Sergei Vasilievich Rachmaninoff (Russian: Сергей Васильевич Рахманинов), 1 April 1873 - 28 March 1943, was a composer, pianist, and conductor. Alternative transliterations of his name include Sergey, Sergej or Serge, and Rachmaninov, Rakhmaninoff. Rachmaninoff was born in 1873 in Semyonovo, near Novgorod, in north-western Russia. Sergei Vasilievich Rachmaninoff (Russian: Серге́й Васи́льевич Рахма́нинов;) Russian pronunciation: ; 1 April 1873 – 28 March 1943) was a Russian composer, pianist, and conductor. Rachmaninoff is widely considered as one of the finest pianists of his day and, as a composer, one of the last great representatives of Romanticism in Russian classical music.

You can hear his enthusiasm throughout the album, notwithstanding the rather poor recording quality - but hey, what would you expect from CD transitions of pieces recorded between 1919 and 1935? Highlights, sporting great technique and another relevant attitude toward playing of Chopin, include the authoritative version of Funeral March Sonata No. 2, the well-contrasting Scherzo N. and virtuoso Waltz O. 2 "Two Four", two waltzes are included in two different versions.
