Thomas Melchior ist im Augenblick fleißig. Veröffentlichungen für seine Heimatadresse Perlon und eine Maxi mit Bruno Pronsato für Smallville haben diesen unfreiwilligen Patriarch einer Houserichtung, die manche mit dem „Minimal“-Präfix versehen, wieder einmal ins Rampenlicht gerückt. Im Gegensatz zu seinen ungezählten Imitatoren resultiert Verzicht bei Melchior nie in einer dünnen Sounddecke. Für Lick My Deck beweist er das erneut. Zwei Tracks, die Repetition nicht mit Langeweile gleichsetzen, herzliche Monotonie versprühen und selbst die zum Klischeegelee eingedickten spanischen Fistelstimmen als Element neutralisieren. llustrious producer Thomas Melchior has become the latest addition to the Lick My Deck family. His debut EP for the vinyl enthusiasts finds him in a typically stripped back and groove laden mood as he once again displays the kind of tight production skills that won him high acclaim with a relatively small amount of releases for the likes of Playhouse, Perlon and Cadenza amongst others."Cinza De Fenix" is another intricate and complex sound design from the German. He uses a rolling drum arrangement and punchy percussion to lay a foundation on which he builds layer upon layer of spaced out, stripped down grooves. A horn makes a killer hook in the track, consistently sucking you in as the spiralling grooves cascade around a collection of wonky blips and bleeps. Given soul by a futuristic kind of funk that spills into the groove as the track builds, "Cinza De Fenix" becomes spellbindingly hypnotic as the distant vocal sample loops in the background."Todo Mundo" is much darker but in turn, more sexy and seductive. Melchior creates a wild and tropical soundscape with strange FX and twisted moans mixed with seductive vocals from Argenis Brito to create an intense and surreal emotion that runs throughout the track. So sensual you can feel it breathing down your neck, it is an uneasy sound but one that compels you to listen further and sink yet deeper into this surreal and alien world.A distinctive Melchior sound runs through this EP but is testament to the producer that he adds a fresh and unexpected feel whilst still keeping it instantly recognisable.
