Now That's What I Call Music (also simply titled Now or Now 1) is the first album from the popular Now! series that was released in the United Kingdom on 28 November 1983. Initial pressings were released on vinyl and audio cassette. To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the album and series, the album was re-released on CD for the first time in 2009. Alternative longer mixes of "Only for Love", "Double Dutch" and "Candy Girl" were included in place of the original shorter single mixes from 1983

Sales of the previous releases in the Now series were increasing, according to the press release accompanying the album: Now 1 had sold nearly two million copies; Now 2 and Now 3 were double platinum; Now 4 had entered the charts at number one; and Now 5, less than five months old, was quadruple platinum. The labels have cut back on singles releases and limited the availability of the singles they have released

That’s music, though-you can’t argue that. This means two things: That some of the album’s iconic songs surprisingly didn’t chart very well, and that the highs of the album were dragged down by much lower lows (I’m looking at you, Everything by Fefe Dobson).
