Love's Miracle is the third album from a band that was started by the duo of Paul Christensen and Matt Cronk, who handle drums, guitar and vocals, respectively. The music does not feature a bass, but you won't care, as it's still plenty noisy and sonically appealing - as, Yow did after all pick this band to come out of his retirement with. With a good near-decade between an LP of Yow, his first album for the band, we are treated to something that is different, but should not disappoint Yow fans; when Yow's drunken yelps are featured is when the album is at its best. With that said, Qui does, in fact, do a cover of Pink Floyd's song, "Echoes," as the last track on this album. Although this music writer honestly has not heard the original, I know it has been heavily trimmed in this cover, and I have to think that it must be less epic, but more to-the-point. It's a fine closer, indeed, still being atmospheric and dreamy.

Love's Miracle is Qui's second album, but few people care about their first. The reason music fans care about the band now is that, in 2006, former Jesus Lizard frontman David Yow climbed on board, adding tons of clout and some vocal mayhem to a band that was little more than an obscure guitar-and-drums duo. On Love's Miracle, Qui step into the spotlight as a next-gen take on the Lizard's lean, mean rhythms and guitar excoriations.

Every contemporary aggro-noise band wants what Qui has: David Yow, the elder statesman who cut his teeth (among other things) in Scratch Acid and The Jesus Lizard. Qui, originally a drums-and-guitar duo, added Yow in 2006, and the new lineup looked toward the future with an eye on the past-specifically the early-'90s heyday of Amphetamine Reptile and Touch And Go.
