Static Impulse is the second solo album and fourth solo project by Dream Theater lead singer James LaBrie released on September 28, 2010. In late August 2010, LaBrie released two songs from the album titled "One More Time" and "I Need You". This album features a more melodic death metal approach while still keeping the progressive elements from the previous albums.

Static Impulse is by far his heaviest to date and is sure to please his legion of diehard fans as well as win over many new devotees in the process. James LaBrie is regarded as one of the most influential Prog Metal vocalists of the last 20 years. His significance as the commanding front man of the gods of virtuoso playing techniques, Dream Theater, is without question. His impact has been felt far and wide and rumors of this release have been circulating for a couple of years now with fans eagerly anticipating his latest solo venture. except for the screaming. Honestly, I had a difficult time taking the screaming vocals seriously. It actually made me laugh a bit. Sad, because the music/lyrics and James' vocals make this a 5-Star album in my opinion, but I just can't understand why he decided to include the death-metal screams?

On Static Impulse (and Elements of Persuasion), he is no slouch at all and really demonstrates his songwriting and vocal talents, it is a shame that he is underutilized in his main band.
