Leona Naess - Thirteens flac album

Thirteens is an album by Leona Naess, released in the . on 16 September 2008 by Verve Forecast Records, and released in the UK on 11 May 2009 by Polydor Records. The album was influenced by the death of Naess’s father, Arne Næss, J. in a mountaineering accident in January 2004. Naess returned to London from New York City and eventually began writing and recording songs with music producer Samuel Dixon.

The 2008 release by Leona Naess of her fourth album, Thirteens. The title refers to thirteen lo-fi home-recorded albums that Naess has created over approximately the last two years. A single, "Heavy Like Sunday", was released on June 2, 2008 on Blue Flowers Records. Copies of the 7" vinyl single include a Polaroid picture taken by Naess and she is featured on the forthcoming Ray LaMontagne album, Gossip in the Grain (2008), on the songs "A Falling Through" and "I Still Care for You", and will tour with LaMontagne in late-2008. What a welcome return this album marks for Leona Naess. I saw Leona on tour in 2001, when she seemed poised to break wig with the "I Tried to Rock You" album, and she was terrific that evening in Chicago. I can only hope that she'll take on the road again with this terrific album.

Leona Naess's new album, "Thirteens" comes five years after her 2003 self-titled album, that was pretty much her "808's & Heartbreak". minus the auto-tune, of course. It was largely about the dissolution of her relationship with fellow singer-songwriter Ryan Adams. Now she's back and in full force, with the acoustic sound of the last album, but the lyrical content is more upbeat this time around. The new album is decidedly lo-fi, as a large percentage of it was recorded in various houses and apartments, and that sound works for this project.

Five years after Leona Naess gave it one more shot at the big time with an Ethan Johns-produced eponymous album, she returns with Thirteens, a subdued album that feels a bit like a rebuke to the splashy, hyped records she made at the turn of the millennium. Naess' downshift into a quieter gear came from the combined blow of losing her major-label contract and then losing her father, two events that helped her re-evaluate life

Quite often, however, the album sounds strangely anodyne. Naess's vocals are partly to blame, making interesting songs about the passage of time, such as Heavy Like Sunday, sound like Norah Jones songs after a toot on the Merlot.
