Linda Clifford (born June 14, 1948, Brooklyn, New York, USA) is an American R&B, disco and house music singer and actress. She is a former Miss New York State and fronted a jazz band before moving to R&B. After winning her title, Clifford worked as an actress, playing minor roles in films. She recorded some singles at Paramount Records before signing with Curtom. She released 9 albums between 1977 and 1985, among them a whole duet album with her producer Curtis Mayfield. Her breakthrough single was her cover version of the 1966 Broadway tune "If My Friends Could See Me Now",.

After achieving moderate success with Let Me Be Your Woman in 1979, Linda Clifford doubled her workload and cranked out another album before the year ended. This time out, she worked with an array of producers, writers, and arrangers that includes everyone from Curtis Mayfield to Philadelphia soul king Norman Harris.

Although Clifford would soon become a well-known disco diva through hits like her over-the-top remake of If My Friends Could See Me Now, this set is a surprisingly low-key affair that downplays disco grooves for a more soul-oriented sound. The other material is mostly covers of pop and soul hits, including Stevie Wonder’s If It’s Magic and the Bee Gees’ Be Tender With My Love. The best of these covers is Clifford’s doo wop take on Rod Stewart’s Tonight’s the Night, a clever remake that provides a good vehicle for her brassy vocal persona.
