After releasing the supplemental EP " Knse" in 2005, DEATHSPELL OMEGA unleashed their most ambitious album yet in the form of FAS - ITE, MALEDICTI, IN IGNEM AETERNUM in 2007. The Latinate title which translates into English as "Divine Law - Go Accursed, Into Everlasting Fire" coupled with the representative cover art of a blinded man eternally falling into the darkness away from the light alone are more than enough to portend a very darkened and intoxicating musical experience that lurks within the second chapter of their theistic Satanist's trilogy.
Released in 2007, Fas - Ite, Maledicti, In Ignem Aeternum subverts expectations once more. While it does contain moody, drawn-out passages that rely on silence, cryptic sound effects, and moody minor-key guitar angles, it also contains an aggression not heard from the band since before Kenose, harking back to its earliest recordings. Production has a lot to do with it, as guitar solos can be heard but never in the foreground. It sounds like the whole thing was recorded - BIG AND LOUD - in some cavernous locale. Lyrically, Deathspell Omega are something else again. French culture being what it is, rooted in ancient Roman Catholicism, it seems only natural that a black metal band obsessed with Satanism would have a field day with blasphemy.

Deathspell Omega’s magnum opus Fas – Ite, Maledicti, In Ignem Aeternum (commonly abbreviated as Fas) took the formula that was coined on its predecessor to an extreme, and delivers frenetic black metal with a psychedelic trait that would strike Pink Floyd with an immense sense of awe. The typical trademark of the genre has been dismissed with totality and replaced with a sound that many other bands in the scene has tried to make their own but never quite been able to live up to. What broods below the surface of this monster eats comparably ludicrous bands such as Mayhem and Burzum to breakfast.
