Douglas MacArthur was an American general best known for his command of Allied forces in the Pacific Theater during World War II. Synopsis. Douglas MacArthur was born in Little Rock, Arkansas, on January 26, 1880. Douglas MacArthur was born on an Army base in Little Rock, Arkansas, on January 26, 1880, into a family with a strong military history. For the rest of the 1920s, MacArthur again held various military posts and also headed the American Olympic Committee. He divorced Louise in 1929. In 1930, MacArthur was promoted to general and selected as the Army chief of staff.
Douglas MacArthur, United States Army General began his career in 1899, served in three major military conflicts and held the highest military office of the United States and of the Philippines during that service. June 13, 1899 – appointed as a cadet at the United States Military Academy, West Point, New York. 1900: Is the victim of hazing and becomes involved in a serious scandal where one cadet is left dead by upperclassman abuse.
MacArthur’s career was one of the longest and most controversial of any American military figure, including active service as a general from 1918 to 1951. His genius as a leader was demonstrated most lucidly in his pioneering reforms as West Point superintendent; his bold and imaginative campaigns, with minimum logistical support, during the war against Japan; and, perhaps most important, his enlightened administration of the Japanese occupation (ANB). Octavo, original wrappers as issued. In near fine condition.
Douglas MacArthur was born on January 26, 1880, at the Little Rock Barracks in Arkansas. MacArthur’s early childhood was spent on western frontier outposts where his Army officer father, Arthur MacArthur (1845-1912), was stationed. The younger MacArthur later said of the experience, It was here I learned to ride and shoot even before I could read or write–indeed, almost before I could walk or talk. Did you know? One of General Douglas MacArthur's trademarks was his corncob pipe.
General Douglas MacArthur. Address Of General Of The Army To Congress (4x12").
General Douglas MacArthur (Dean). General Douglas MacArthur is a public artwork by American artist Robert L. Dean, a 1953 graduate of the United States Military Academy (West Point, NY). Previously, the statue was located in MacArthur Square in the Milwaukee Civic Center Plaza, downtown Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA. On June 7, 2014, it was relocated to its new waterfront location at Veterans' Park, next to the Milwaukee County War Memorial Center.
Douglas MacArthur was an enigma, no doubt about it. He also was vain, supremely egotistical and, at times, petty. But he was brilliant beyond words, heroic, brave, confident, humble in his quiet moments, patriotic and God fearing. In my opinion, he not only was the finest general this country ever produced; he was one of the greatest generals in world history. MacArthur's photographic memory becomes apparent in this personal recording of his history. Written in the first person, the reader gets insights into his views of the tumuluous world events which surrounded his life. One also gets a view of his use of words and pattern of speech, familiar to an eighteenth century gentleman, which led some who heard him to view him as arrogant.
