Head Above Water is the sixth studio album by Canadian singer Avril Lavigne. It was released on February 15, 2019, through BMG Rights Management. It is Lavigne's first studio release since her self-titled fifth studio album (2013), marking the longest gap between two of her studio albums.
God keep my head above water Don’t let me drown It gets harder I’ll meet you there at the altar As I fall down to my knees Don’t let me drown Don’t let me drown. So pull me up from down below ‘Cause I’m underneath the undertow Come dry me off and hold me close I need you now I need you most. God keep my head above water Don’t let me drown It gets harder I’ll meet you there at the altar As I fall down to my knees Don’t let me drown Don’t let me drown Don’t let me drown Keep my head above water above water
Head above water (4/5). I think it was a good choice to name the album after this song, since it summarizes the whole spirit of it: an album of self-discovery. Another power ballad. A realization of freedom. That kinda of love that gets you locked in a cage, until the moment you realize you want to be free, like a bird and fly away from it. Lavigne's voice in the chorus sounds a little bit softer, which I like. I Fell in love with the devil (5/5).
Avril Lavigne returned stronger than ever on Wednesday (Sept. 19), releasing the full version of her new single "Head Above Water" after teasing fans with snippets for the last few weeks. The Canadian singer is also reportedly working on a new album. Avril Lavigne returned stronger than ever on Wednesday (Sept. Lavigne's first track in five years, Head Above Water is a powerful, spiritual epiphany detailing the Canadian singer's journey through her battle with Lyme disease.
However, Head Above Water is sure to address Lavigne’s triumphant comeback as a whole. The cover features Lavigne in a pool of water, holding a guitar close to her body. While the instrument is slightly submerged, the majority of the guitar stands proudly out of the water.
Head Above Water Lyrics. I've gotta keep the calm before the storm I don’t want less, I don't want more Must bar the windows and the doors To keep me safe, to keep me warm Yeah, my life is what I'm fighting for Can’t part the sea, can't reach the shore And my voice becomes the driving force I. won't let this pull me overboard. On her comeback ballad Head Above Water, Avril Lavigne sings about fighting for her life. The song is a piano-driven pop-rock anthem, in which Lavigne tries to stop herself from drowning under the immense pressure from her battle with Lyme Disease, of which she had not been open about for a long time. She also prays to God and makes references to religion. The song is her first single in 3 years since her 2015 song Fly for the Special Olympics. During her break from making music, Lavigne had an extensive life or death battle with Lyme Disease.
The lead single on Avril Lavigne’s 2013 self-titled album was an ode to youthful recklessness called Here’s to Never Growing Up. But six years later, having come out the other side of a public divorce from Nickelback’s Chad Kroeger and still dealing with the effects of contracting Lyme disease, it’d be hard not to grow up just a little bit. Indeed, many of the songs on Lavigne’s sixth studio LP were written during her prolonged illness and reflect a real maturation, deepened life experience, and honest soul-baring (make what you will of the album’s artwork).
Lavigne might not have found a musical identity that truly becomes her, but Head Above Water is an effective, and occasionally affecting, album. 50. The Lavigne heard at the beginning of the record is almost an entirely different person by the end; the hard part is figuring out which part you like more.
