Willie Colón - Che Che Colé Taken from the album 'Cosa Nuestra' (Fania 384). Composed by Willie Colón. Published by Fania Music (BMI). On 'Che Che Colé' from the fourth album 'Cosa Nuestra', Hector is in great voice, gliding effortlessly over the music whilst maintaining complete control.

For those with any interest in Willie Colón's career, The Player is intelligently selected and packed with great material. What's more, for the first time, a little context is given, with incisive, knowledgeable liner notes and dozens of photographs. Beginning with a rare single from 1966-1967 originally on the Futura label, the first disc traces Colón's career during the '70s, including a wealth of salsa landmarks: "The Hustler," "Che Che Colé," "Junio '73," "MC2," and more

Colón's composition "Che Che Cole," adapted from a Ghanaian children's song, was used by Ntozake Shange in the musical play For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enuf. In addition to 11 Grammy nominations and one Grammy award, Colón has received a CHUBB fellowship from Yale University, the most prestigious award given by the Ivy League school. Lavoe remained a vital member of Colón's band until the mid-'70s when an increasing dependence on drugs caused him to miss or show up late for several gigs. Although their partnership formally ended in 1975, Colón and Lavoe continued to work together. Lavoe's last album, Strikes Back, released in 1987, was produced by Colón. His increased knowledge paid off quickly.
