Talk about Death In June - "Essence!"

Centrizius
New black vinyl pressing of 500 with three postcards to be available 3/21/19.
Drelahuginn
Apparently, the pink edition of this was under-pressed by about 200 copies due to the original distributor running out of 'the color'. So some of us that pre-ordered this edition NEVER got it!
Mitynarit
The wording is a bit confusing. Under-pressed implies the pressing plant made fewer than the expected 700. So you're saying that the pressing plant ran out of the pink color so they made 500 instead of 700? Or they pressed 700 and a distributor just didn't get as many of the 700 copies as they expected so some orders didn't get fulfilled? If it's the latter it wouldn't be "under-pressed" it would just be a distribution issue.
Sirara
Very interesting. How or where did you get that info?
Usishele
A scatter bunch of burntout platitudes. "Burnout is a state of emotional, mental, and physical exhaustion caused by excessive and prolonged stress. It occurs when you feel overwhelmed and unable to meet constant demands. As the stress continues, you begin to lose the interest or motivation that led you to take on a certain role in the first place."That's the "essence" from this álbum.
Faell
I understand , and prefer this answer :) I forgive him, he is more older now , maybe more lazy, and need of money for live (he will not find a job at 60 years old) , I love him for the past, and I find pleasure in some songs on each new albums.
Darkshaper
"Peaceful snow" is a good album and I said it.The problem with bands like these is that their back catalogue is inmensely classic, and one cannot simply forget it as if it didn't happen, as a critic you're simply obliged to compare, that's the issue of having memory and conscience, what can be done about it?Criticism is a reminder of things past and a necessity for improvement of future things. Some people may like the artist to self repeat his back catalogue as a new thing, multiple bands, not necessary to mention them do this in order to keep the most loyal fanbase. All of them end their days vilified by some while glorified by their fanatic followers. In reality this is not an improvement for a band or music, even if some fans may like it. It's just a repetition and necessarily means either the artist already said all what he had to say, ran out of ideas or just became lazy. Its actually both a virtue and a curse that Douglas is a genius, I will always expect betterment on his part and utter deception if not. I am not a fan, I am a discriminating ear.

Stop to listen or buy new Death In June , you always found them bad since the "Alarm Agent" it's not necessary to said for each new release, how it's bad and uninteresting :) Personaly I like this new one more than the last one , maybe because it's more closer to his past, and I appreciate to refind, beat box, trumpet , orchestration etc ..
Samuhn
Great album. Also, my picture disc didn't come with that back cover showing in the pictures.

It is so odd to see some of the negative reviews for this album. In my opinion, if you don't like this album then you just don't like or understand Death in June. I can even agree that a couple of more recent albums might have been a little dry and uneventful. However, I thought Essence is the perfect name for this album because it had many glimpses and reflections of the earlier styles of DIJ. The opening was briefly reminiscent of something you might hear on Wall of Sacrifice. My Florida Dawn also has a psychotic All Pigs Must Die feel to it. A couple of songs even had a deep Heaven Street sort of grittiness to them. I noticed a few mastering innovations with some interesting bass and orchestral accompaniments. There is chaotic electric guitar feedback that rumbles in the background like a thunderstorm while glorius accoustic guitar chords rain down; Dreamy piano notes and bells at just the right locations; and deep, dark lyics and layers of vocal echoes that have Douglas Pearce's trademarks of elegance and poetry. All were very nice tunes with everything you would expect from DIJ. Douglas Pearce still has the golden touch, as he remains a masterful, prolific songwriter. Five stars!
Rindyt
I was hesitant going into this. Although I've stopped listening to many of my fave '80s and '90s artists' new work, I couldn't fathom not giving any new DIJ a spin. It's a grower to be certain, and won't ever replace the all-time classics (I imagine), but it's quite a decent record, one I plan on playing many more times.
Goodman
Alas, previous albums were already not so good and had more to do with speculation than music. Yet the same shit again. Douglas took all the great elements from his classic works of 90s and managed to made the most boring album out of it.
Moronydit
As i mentioned earlier, here´s a simple example of vulturing the money:get the record for a FAIR price/here on Discogs) of only and nearly 90,00 Euro bucks..!!Again bullshit release policy from the label, scared that no one will buy this records???Come on...
Xanna
As usually nothing new: the same lazy dark folk as 20 years ago with nice melodies.
Nikohn
Splatter Green/Maroon (and other versions) still available at Banquet Records.
YSOP
Is it really that difficult to release a new Di6 record? Only possibility to order is from the US or France at horrible shipping rates. Wtf?
Molotok
Definitely bullshit selling policy from the label, nothing more to say...
IWantYou
I was quite enchanted by the previous albums despite the repetitive style... now I find this new one quite disappointing. Sounds weel too much of "réchauffé !...
Samugor
Just another boring Neofolk album from Douglas. Where is the experimentation and Industrial sounds gone?!
Voodoozragore
It's bored not because neofolk, it's just bored, that's all
Tinavio
I have pretty everything from Douglas P. Same old limited edition speculation. If I was the artist I wouldn't do such limited edition for every rendition. Make it a limited coloured for the collectors (not music lovers, I mean collectors) and a black one in standard pressing. I'm tired of this and I won't buy it. Eventually, if a new second black edition comes I'll be glad to get it. Don't want to feed the speculators, I'm not so stupid anymore. I'm downloading it.
skyjettttt
Absolutely NimrodP,forget that to mention too,it´s sold out and none listen to the album, exactly.Last week i checked the f...book site to get the album but nothing mentioned, only the album will released as blah blah. The coin is still running...
Gozragore
Yeah and not only groovy baby,it´s still in piggy pink...!!
Cordanara
Let´s sit and wait for what kind o insane prices the record will be offered shortly, the money suckers get a bunch of records from the label. The run of 300 items are sold out...
Lbe
Try Rough Trade if you want the pink version. _____
Brialelis
I don't know about you but there are a few band i just buy new releases from without having a listen, DI6 is one of them for me.
Xtani
Reissues are reissues but the new album is something different
Jum
Well many of the more recent DIJ reissues took months to sell, even the limited editions of 300-500. Just seems strange that demand got so high all of a sudden for an album no one has heard.
Zainian
Maybe this is because it's not enough 2000 units only (300 Splatter, 700 Pink, 1000 Picture).Anyway, seems all copies sold to stores and the stores sold out almost all copies for pre order. The interesting point is that nobody listened to this album but all the editions almost sold out.
Uaoteowi
What just happened? There was a store online that had them a couple days ago and now all vinyl is gone and not for sale except the picture disc.
