The Wedding Present are a British indie rock group originally formed in 1985 in Leeds, England, from the ashes of the Lost Pandas. The band's music has evolved from fast-paced indie rock in the vein of their most obvious influences The Fall, Buzzcocks and Gang of Four to more varied forms. Throughout their career, they have been led by vocalist and guitarist David Gedge, the band's only constant member.

I recall seeing The Wedding Present here in Tokyo – with Gedge standing beside his young new drummer, coaxing a truly powerful performance from him, challenging him to keep pace with his own high-speed guitar licks

Bizarro was released early in The Wedding Present's career. Yet, this 1989 album still plays fresh to its British Indie Pop roots. With their energetic guitar playing, three-chord structures and unique vocals of David Gedge, The Wedding Present is a pleasure to listen to. Certainly, the highlight of the album is 'Kennedy'. But even the less well known songs like the apologetic 'What Have I Said Now?' speak to the foibles in all of us. 25 years on, Bizarro retains the ability to entertain you, and maintain its status among timeless albums.
