Live in Hamburg is a live album by singer Roger Chapman and his then band The Shortlist, released in 1979. It was recorded on August 28, 1979 at the Markthalle Hamburg. Side one. Side two. 2 Personnel. In 1979 Whitehorn joined Roger Chapman s Band The Shortlist, touring Europe extensively and his playing in the Band was inspired by jazz – harmonies. He has played live and recorded with The Palers Project and he changed his style into a more classic rock solo performance. In 2007, he worked with Elkie Brooks on her UK tour, since Geoff has played regularly with Gambler and, more recently, The Strumbums.

Roger Maxwell Chapman (born 8 April 1942 in Leicester), also known as Chappo, is an English rock vocalist. He is best known as a member of the progressive rock band Family, which he joined along with Charlie Whitney, in 1966 and also the rock, R&B band Streetwalkers formed in 1974. His idiosyncratic brand of showmanship when performing and vocal vibrato led him to become a cult figure on the British rock scene. In 1979 Chapman began a solo career and recorded his first solo album Chappo. His backing band became known as The Shortlist at this time and he toured Europe extensively. Mike Oldfield's song "Shadow on the Wall" from the album Crises (1983) featured Chapman on vocals and became a big hit. He appeared as a guest artist on the second Box of Frogs album Strange Land (1986) singing lead vocals on two songs. Live in Hamburg (1979).

The performance from Hamburg in November ended an epic year for the singer - his solo career had just kicked off with the ‘Chappo’ LP, and three months before, he had recorded his noted ‘Live In Hamburg’ album at the same Markthalle venue. The TV executives present at the gig demanded a repeat performance for the cameras. The Shortlist (named after a Mickey Jupp song) included seasoned veterans Tim Hinkley (piano), Jerome Rimson (bass), Stretch (drums) and Nick Pentelow (sax).
